Regulations in China on the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products are poised to undergo a significant change starting in August 2027.
Originally published nearly 20 years ago, China’s “Administrative Measures for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products” (also known as “China RoHS”) was extensively updated last year with the publication of GB 26572-2025.
According to an expansive article recently posted on the website of supply chain consultancy Z2, the update to the country’s RoHS regulation adds 23 new product categories to the list of covered products. Electronics that will now be subject to China’s RoHS regulations include consumer electronics, household appliances, smart devices and wearable devices, and medical electronics.
In addition, the list of restricted substances has been expanded to include four additional phthalates, bringing the total to 10. The change also brings China’s RoHS requirements more in alignment with the European Union’s (EU’s) regulations.
China’s updated RoHS regulations are scheduled to take effect beginning in August 2027.
