California Develops Regulations for Public Use of Self-Driving Cars

The state of California is taking steps towards developing rules for driving autonomous cars by the public and those rules are expected to be ready by January 1, 2015. Testing regulations for autonomous cars will go into effect on September 16, 2014.

The rules explain how to operate autonomous vehicles and how drivers will need to pass a special driving course. Drivers will need to be ready to take control of the vehicle at any time. In addition, drivers will need to have an understanding of the technology in the car.
