With his extensive knowledge of low voltage and security systems design, Whalen’s rare mix of expertise enables Burns & McDonnell to provide a unique level of service to facility engineers, mechanical engineers and architects.
With more than 22 years of experience as an electrical engineer, Whalen has developed a reputation as being a leading expert on healthcare IT systems and security systems in the region. He worked extensively on Mayo Clinic’s Tele-ICU project, which allows doctors based at the healthcare system’s Rochester headquarters to physiologically monitor and diagnose patients at seven other Mayo locations – without leaving their offices. Whalen also has security, surveillance, and access control consulting and designing experience for clients in commercial, governmental, aviation, data center and healthcare markets.
