Retail discount giants Target and BJ’s have announced separate recalls of a combined total of nearly 100,000 LED flashlight sets manufactured in China.
According to the companies, the flashlights can heat up, smoke or melt when turned on, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. Target has received reports of four separate incidents with their recalled flashlights, including two that resulted in minor burns to consumers’ hands. BJ’s has received two separate reports regarding their recalled flashlights, including one minor injury to a consumer hand.
The LED flashlight sets recalled by Target were sold in Target stores nationwide from October 2010 through November 2011 for about $10 per set. The flashlight sets recalled by BJ’s were sold in BJ’s Wholesale Clubs from July through December 2011 for about $15.
