Battery Material Store 10 Times the Amount of Energy of Lithium-ion Batteries

A new battery material has been developed that can store ten times the amount of energy that lithium-ion batteries can store. The new material has the potential to increase the battery life of portable electronics and electronic vehicles.

The material is utilizing SiNode technology and was developed by a team of Northwestern students in 2012. The team received a grant to further develop this new technology. The team has been able to develop higher battery capacity and quicker charging rates, while being able to produce the materials at a lower cost than traditional battery models.
