The Society of Women Engineers’ (SWE) annual conference is coming to Baltimore, Oct. 24-26. WE13 will bring together more than 6,000 women engineers from throughout the world for SWE’s pinnacle event. The event is the largest of its kind in the world, bringing together students and professionals alike to advance their careers through networking, local tours, events and workshops while helping one another to establish a voice and a path in the engineering world.
Cristina Amorim, Life Technologies’ chief sustainability officer, and Lynn A. Dugle, Raytheon Company’s vice president and Raytheon Intelligence Information and Services’ president, will both deliver keynote speeches at this year’s conference, drawing on their respective, exceptional careers to educate attendees about advancing their careers and surviving professional hardships. The conference will also bring together over 250 organizations for the largest career fair for women in engineering and technology, where various STEM leaders and innovators will seek out the next generation of women engineer’s best and brightest.
Invent it. Build it., one of the conference’s most popular events, also returns this year. This open-to-the-public workshop brings together girls in grades 6-8 to work with SWE members on engineering activities, which this year will be created by Design Squad Nation, the PBS reality television show where kids compete to construct incredible machines. The Invent it. Build it. Expo that follows offers kids and parents alike the opportunity to visit with exhibitors such as FIRST, Girl Scouts, SciGirls, WGBH, SWE and more, to discover more about engineering careers and how to pursue them through scholarships, academic tracks and college admissions.
