John Hatcliff

Dr. John Hatcliff is a University Distinguished Professor and Lucas-Rathbone Professor of Engineering in the Computer Science Department at Kansas State University. His research addresses challenges in safety- and security-critical systems, interoperable medical systems, component-oriented and platform-based development, and static analysis & verification of critical systems. His recent research has been funded by US Army, US Air Force, DARPA, US Department of Homeland Security, Collins Aerospace, and the Software Engineering Institute.

This article provides an overview of lifecycle issues for interoperable medical products that are not sufficiently addressed in existing medical device standards and identifies lifecycle concepts from other domains that may be adapted for interoperable medical systems.
