A Miami-based company is recalling 3,800 audio receivers due to a defect that creates a fire risk.
The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission said today that Niles Audio Corp. is voluntarily recalling the Niles ZR-6 MultiZone Receivers because a failure in the receiver’s internal components can cause loudspeakers connected to the receive to overheat and cause a fire.
Niles said there have been three incidents in which speakers connected to the receivers overheated, although no injuries were reported.
The receivers are black with a blue LCD display on the right side and the Niles logo in white on the front center. The receivers measure 17 inches wide by 3.5 inches high by 15 inches deep. The model number ZR-6 is located on the lower left side of the front panel of the receivers.
These high end receivers sold for about $2,000 between July 2008 and November 2009, mostly through companies that do custom installation of home audio and video systems.
The defect can be corrected by a software upgrade. Customers should stop using the receivers and contact Niles at ZR6Info@nilesaudio.com or by calling (800) 667-3991.
