Several projects are being funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy (ARPA-E) for the development and research of using liquid battery electrodes that reduce costs while increasing energy density. These new batteries have the ability to be recharged or replaced with new fuel.
A team of researchers at the Argonne National Laboratory and the Illinois Institute of Technology using the materials have theoretically determined that these batteries would allow electric cars to travel five times farther than most electric vehicles can currently travel. The team will utilize the funds from ARPA-E to develop a prototype that uses liquid for both positive and negative electrodes.
