On Wednesday, January 15th, Apple reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over complaints that the company did not do enough to prevent children from making unauthorized purchases on mobile applications.
The company agreed to refund at least $32.5 million for all the unauthorized charges and change its billing for mobile applications to obtain consent before purchasing items. The FTC claims that parents were uninformed that by entering their password, they opened a 15 minute window where children could make purchases from applications or mobile games without their knowledge.
Apple will contact potentially affected customers with details on how to obtain refunds.
