Amphenol’s Data Link Connector among the Most Durable in its Class

Amphenol Industrial Products Group announced they offer one of the most durable data link connectors in its class; meeting SAE J2839 and IEC 61076-2-101 specifications.  The Max-M12 withstands connector to cable retention forces of 444 N and contact retention forces of 110 N, tested at 100 mating cycles minimum.

Ideal for use in heavy equipment, rail mass transit, mining, and process control as well as in applications that require high speed data transmission, the Max-M12 can easily withstand extremely harsh environments and electrical noise. This field installable and repairable connector is a standalone system that does not need to be overmolded to a cable to meet the harsh environments; however it can be if needed.

The Max-M12 is backward compatible and can be mated with any standard M12 with the same indexing. Designed to endure high vibration and extreme temperatures ranging from -55°C to 125°C, the new connector maintains a current rating of 4 A.  All versions of this high speed connector are IP67 or above, making them dust and water proof, resistant to high pressure and high temperature wash downs.   It will meet 240 hours of salt spray.

VSWR and its Effects on Power Amplifiers

Voltage Standing Wave Ratio results from an impedance mismatch between a source (an amplifier) and a load (test application). This mismatch can influence the performance of the source.

The Max-M12 is housed in an HDM 12 EX impact resistant metal or plastic shell and both are available as a 90° right angle connector or straight version.  The metal version is required for shielding.  Both the 4- and 5-pin configurations are available with A, B, D and P polarity codes in line with IEC 61076-2-101 specifications.  Additional indexes are available upon request.

This durable connector can be terminated using solder terminals with 0.8 mm² (18 AWG) or 0.5 mm² (20 AWG) wires as defined by SAE J1128 and 0.75 mm² or 0.50 mm² conductors as defined by ISO 6722. The dielectric withstanding of the Max-M12 is 1,000 V.
