Amazon Reveals Plans to Use Drones for Deliveries

During the December 1st episode of “60 Minutes”, Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, revealed the online store is currently developing a drone-based delivery service called Prime Air. Customers would be able to have their products delivered only 30 minutes after they click the “buy” button.

Bezos estimated Prime Air will be available to customers within 4 to 5 years. The secret project is being developed by Amazon’s busy R+D department. The drones would be capable of delivering items up to 5 pounds in weight, which according to Bezos account for 86% of the items Amazon delivers. Amazon is currently working on additional safety testing and FAA approvals before Prime Air will be able to be launched.
