The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says Acer America Corp. is recalling 22,000 of its notebook computers due to a potential burn hazard.
Acer America, based in San Jose, Calif., says an internal microphone wire under the palm rest can short circuit and overheat. Acer has received three reports of computers short-circuiting, although no one has been injured. Consumers are advised to stop using the computers and contact Acer to determine if their computer needs to be repaired.
Affected by the recall are Acer Aspire notebooks with 13.1-inch screens that sold for between $650 and $1,150 and were manufactured between June through October of 2009. The affected products carry these model numbers: AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. However, not all the computers with these model numbers have the defective wiring.
