Portion of C-Band Spectrum Reallocated for Terrestrial Broadband Use

 

A portion of the C-band spectrum, 3.4 to 3.8 GHz, was reallocated for use by terrestrial broadband operators by the European Commission on October 9, 2014. This space was previously reserved exclusively for satellite use. The upper portion of the band, 3.8 to 4.2 GHz, would be reserved for satellite use.

Roberto Viola, deputy director general for the European Commission’s DG Connect division, said “we have fixed the so-called C band problem. It’s a good starting point for coexistence between satellite and terrestrial networks.”
