New Manufacturing Institute Competition Announced by DoD

New Manufacturing Institute Competition Announced by DoD | In Compliance Magazine

The Department of Defense has announced a competition to open a fourth DoD-led manufacturing institute. The winner of the competition will receive up to $110 million in federal funds to focus on projects in photonics.

The Integrated Photonics Institute for Manufacturing Innovation (IMI) emphasis will be on creating an end-to-end photonics ecosystem within the country. The Integrated Photonics IMI research could lead to improvements in the next-generation of information processing, communications, and data storage, advances in photonics-electronics integration, and enhancements in the dynamic range of detectors. In early November, the DoD will release an announcement when proposals can be submitted from teams to lead the institute.
