Emergency personnel have reported intermittent communication outages with the new regional 911 system that was installed in Broward County, FL. When an officer tries to make a call using the system, a “bonk” sound is heard, and the call fails. In some instances, the officer needs to return to the station to dispatch other officers or contact them by a mobile phone.
The outages are sporadic throughout the day and have lasted for several hours. The source of the system to fail is unknown, and the equipment vendor is working with county officials to solve the problem.
