Indian Government Announces New Automotive Crash Test Regulations

A set of safety regulations for new cars is being finalized by the Indian government after several popular small vehicles failed global crash safety tests earlier this year.

As part of the regulations, car manufacturers are required to make major physical changes to current models and withdrawal older models from the market to comply with new offset frontal crash and side-impact tests. Some of the physical changes may include changing the body design, strengthening the chassis and body cage. In addition to the physical changes, safety features like airbags, anti-lock brake system and seat belt reminder would increase the safety ratings of these new vehicles.
