Comarco, Inc. of Lake Forest, CA has issued a voluntary recall for over 500,000 Targus-brand wall power adaptors for laptop computers, manufactured in China.
According to a recall alert issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the wall power adaptors include faulty wiring that can cause the connector tips to heat and melt the plastic encasing the connector tips, posing a burn hazard to consumers.
Comarco says that it has received 518 separate reports of the connector tips heating, 53 of which resulted in the melting of the plastic casing. Eight consumers have reports burns to their finger tips or hands, but the incidents did not require medical attention.
The recalled wall power adaptors were sold through a variety of electronic and office supply superstores from June 2009 through March 2010 for between $89-109 for adaptors with wall outlets only, and for between $129-149 for adaptors for both wall outlets and car/airplane use.
