FCC Plans to Release the Largest Amount of Spectrum in Six Years for Mobile Broadband

The Federal Communications Commission has approved a Report and Order to continue efforts to increase the amount of spectrum available for flexible use wireless services.  This report and order signifies the largest amount of spectrum made available since 2008.

The 65 MHz band in the AWS-3 band is set to be auctioned and will include flexible-use regulatory, licensing, and technical rules.  This 65 MHz spectrum includes the 1695-1710 MHz, 1755-180 MHz and 2155-210 MHz bands. A band plan has been established within the Report and Order that makes the spectrum available in a mixture of spectrum blocks and geographic areas to meet the requirements of both small and large wireless providers.
