A team of computer scientists from the University of Washington have developed a gesture recognition system that uses no batteries and offers the ability to control electronic devices with hand movements. The prototype utilizes existing TV signals for power and sensing hand gestures.
The team built a small sensor to place on an electronic device that uses an ultra-low power receiver to capture and categorize gestures from wireless transmissions. This recognition system could provide an alternative to touchscreens and could be attached to household electronics to interact with them and the ability to connect them to the Internet.
