The IEEE’s EMC Society is now taking applications for its annual Student EMC Hardware Design Competition.
This year’s competition, which will take place at this year’s EMC+SIPI Symposium in Raleigh, NC in mid-August, will invite applicants to develop and submit a method for locating an RF source in the presence of unknown reflections. Three finalists will be selected from the submitted applications and invited to a special session at this year’s Symposium, where they will be challenged to use their method to locate each of the three low-power radio transmitters operating on different frequencies hidden in the exhibit hall.
The first-place winner will receive a cash prize of $2000, while the second- and third-place winners will receive $1000 and $500, respectively.
Interested students can learn more about the competition and file their application detailing their specific locating method at https://emc2025.org/programs/student-hardware-competition/. The deadline for filing applications is May 1st, and the top 3 finalists for the competition at the Symposium will be notified on May 18th.
