The Department of Transportation has announced that it is working towards mandating vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology, where cars will communicate with each other to avoid accidents.
Through research, V2V technology has shown the potential to help drivers avoid or reduce 70-80% of crashes involving unimpaired drivers. The National High Traffic Safety Administration is currently analyzing the data from the yearlong study and once completed, a report will be available for public comment. According to Acting Administrator of the NHTSA, David Friedman, “V2V crash avoidance technology has game-changing potential to significantly reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths on our nation’s roads.”
