Coupled Flatwire Inductor for High-Performance Switching Regulators from Wurth Electronics Midcom

High-performance switching regulators require powerful inductors with stable inductance and soft saturation to cope with high currents. Würth Elektronik eiSos has developed the WE-CFWI range of coupled flatwire inductors.

The windings can be connected in series and in parallel. This means the compact, double choke can be used in SEPIC, CUK or Buck/Boost converters. The special core material enables high saturation currents of up to 62A, which is four times higher than previously comparable double chokes. Soft saturation, a very tight tolerance inductance and very low DC resistance with only 10% tolerance is convincing. The leakage inductance of less than 0.5% reduces peaks in start-up currents. Excellent inductance stability over temperature and low DC resistance makes this component particularly suitable for high-performance switching regulators.

This component is available in an extended temperature range up to 150°C, and inductance values of up to 17.6μH. All catalog components are available from stock. Samples are free of charge.

A Dash of Maxwell’s: A Maxwell’s Equations Primer – Part One

Solving Maxwell’s Equations for real-life situations, like predicting the RF emissions from a cell tower, requires more mathematical horsepower than any individual mind can muster. These equations don’t give the scientist or engineer just insight, they are literally the answer to everything RF.
