Switch-mode power electronics are found in virtually every electronic product on the market today. By design, most power circuits switch rapidly, resulting in voltages and currents that change suddenly. This creates opportunities for electric and magnetic field coupling of the switching noise to other circuits and systems. Fortunately, significant advancements in power circuit and component technology have made containing this noise reasonably straight-forward. Unfortunately, there is a large volume of bad design advice in old texts, product application notes and on internet sites. This presentation reviews the steps necessary to ensure the compliant design of power electronics ranging from low-power board-level DC to-DC converters to large three-phase motor drivers. It also addresses the misinformation related to power electronics layout that is plaguing the electronics industry. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with EMC and Test Equipment vendors from across the U.S. Past seminars have featured up to 32 exhibitors!
