New ISO standard for RFID released

The International Organization for Standardizations (ISO) says its new standard for RFID technology will help grow the use of RFID in supply chains.

The standard, ISO 17367:2009, defines the basic features of RFID for use in the supply chain for product tagging. They include encoded identification of the product; additional information about the product in the RFID tag; semantics and data syntax; the data protocol for business applications to interact with the RFID system; and the air interface standards for communications between the RFID “interrogator” and the tag.

RFID stands for radio frequency identification and is primarily used to identify products at each stage of the chain of production, processing, distribution, and selling.

Shielding Effectiveness Test Guide

Just as interference testing requires RF enclosures, isolation systems in turn need their own testing. This document reviews some of the issues and considerations in testing RF enclosures.

Craig K. Harmon, chair of the working group that developed the standard said “ISO 17367:2009 will provide higher level security of products worldwide using RFID technology. It will enable easy and efficient exchange of commodities in international trade and logistics. “
