Remembering Bill Kimmel

author_kimmel-billLongtime EMI consultant and engineer Bill Kimmel passed away on April 29th following a brief illness. He was 74 years old.

Born in Wisconsin, Bill attended the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1963. After spending over 20 years working on computer systems for the military at Sperry Univac, Bill joined with his long-time friend Daryl Gerke to establish Kimmel-Gerke and Associates, a consulting and training firm dedicated to helping clients solve complex interference problems through effective product design.

During the course of his long career, Bill trained thousands of engineers on EMI issues. He was also a prolific writer, co-authoring three books on EMI-related issues, as well as nearly 200 technical articles (many of which were published in the pages of InCompliance Magazine). Finally, Bill was an active participant in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), co-founding the MN EMC Event, a one-day EMC exhibition held annually in the Minneapolis-St Paul area.

A Dash of Maxwell’s: A Maxwell’s Equations Primer – Part Two

Maxwell’s Equations are eloquently simple yet excruciatingly complex. Their first statement by James Clerk Maxwell in 1864 heralded the beginning of the age of radio and, one could argue, the age of modern electronics.

Bill is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Susan and Eric, five grandchildren, and a host of warm memories about his contributions to all of us in the compliance industry. For more information about Bill and his legacy, visit the Kimmel-Gerke website at www.emiguru.com.
