FCC Sets Dates for Displaying Broadband Consumer Labels

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently announced final dates for compliance with its new requirements requiring broadband service providers to provide consumers with point-of-sale information regarding their services.

According to a press release issued by the FCC in mid-October, broadband service providers with more than 100,000 subscriber lines must display the Commission-mandated Broadband Consumer Label at the point of sale by not later than April 10, 2024. Service providers with 100,000 or fewer subscribers will have until October 10, 2024, to comply with the Broadband Consumer Label Requirement.

The FCC says that its Broadband Consumer Label is intended to provide consumers with important, up-front information about broadband prices, introductory rates, data allowances, and broadband speeds so that they can make informed decisions when it comes to subscribing for broadband services. The FDA says that the Label is similar in format to nutrition labels mandated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
