FCC Proposes Updated Standards for Equipment Authorization

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed updates to its rules to reflect the latest industry standards to keep pace with the rapid and widespread deployment of radiofrequency (RF).

In a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, the Commission proposed adding or replacing two standards in its rules applicable to measurement and laboratory testing procedures, as well as two standards applicable to accreditation bodies and testing and calibration laboratories. The updated standards include:

  • ANSI C63.25.1-2018, “American National Standard Validation Methods for Radiated Emission Test Sites; 1 GHz to 19 GHz”—New standard
  • ANSI C63.10-2020, “American National Standard of Procedures for Compliance Testing of Unlicensed Wireless Devices”—Replaces ANSI C63.10-2013
  • ISO/IEC 17011:2017, “Conformity assessment – Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies”—Replaces ISO 17011:2004
  • ISO/IEC 17025:2017, “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories”—Replaces ISO 17025:2005

Comments on the FCC’s proposed changes can be made through the end of February via the Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS) (reference ET Docket No. 21-363).
