U.S. FCC Acts to Limit Spread of Coronavirus

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced a number of policies and procedures to help reduce the potential spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) among its employees.

According to a press release issued on March 4th, the agency has implemented the following policies with immediate effect:

  • Visitors to FCC facilities who have traveled during the prior two weeks to countries categorized as Warning Level 3 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will not be permitted access to any FCC facility, including the agency’s Washington, D.C. offices. Those countries currently categorized as Warning Level 3 included China, Iran, Italy and South Korea.
  • Similarly, FCC employees and contractors who have traveled to Warning Level 3 countries are being requested not to enter FCC facilities.
  • The FCC has suspended until further noted non-essential domestic and international travel by FCC employees and contractors.
  • The FCC has also suspended involvement or participation in any non-critical, large-scale meetings, conferences or gatherings that involve participants from across the country and/or around the world.

The FCC’s press release notes the dynamic nature of the current threat and says that the agency will take additional actions as warranted.
