U.S. EPA Publishes Updated ENERGY STAR® Requirements for Luminaires

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued an updated version of its energy efficiency requirements for luminaires under the Agency’s ENERGY STAR® program.

Version 2.2 of the “Product Specification for Luminaires (Light Fixtures)” now covers a number of additional lighting products, including portable desk task lights using a USB charger or an AC outlet. The updated specification also explicitly clarifies that luminaires with integrated battery packs intended exclusively for emergency operations are not excluded from ENERGY STAR certification.

The updated specification also accepts ANSI/ES LM-79-19, a new photometric standard, for the testing of luminaires.
