Siemens Industry, Inc. of Buffalo Grove, IL has issued a recall for approximately 57,000 of its Q-Series temperature and humidity sensors manufactured in China and installed in schools, hospitals and commercial buildings.
Siemens has notified the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) that the sensors can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The company has received four reports of overheating and fires related to the recalled sensors with minor property damage. Two to the reported fires were in schools, with the other two in hospitals. However, there have been no reports of injuries.
The recalled sensors were sold through Siemens sales offices, partners, resellers and installers from June 2007 through August 2012 for between $200 and $400.
