FCC Agents Seize Pirate Radio Equipment in NYC

Continuing its vigorous efforts to combat illegal radio operations, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reports that it has seized equipment used in pirate radio operations in New York City.

According to a Commission press release issued in mid-May, agents from the Commission’s Enforcement Bureau, in coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, seized equipment from an apartment in a high-rise building in Manhattan. The equipment was reportedly used in support of radio station “Rumba FM,” operating at 95.3 FM without the requisite license from the FCC.

The seizure followed an investigation by the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau and the issuance of multiple orders to the operators to terminate their illegal operations. However, their failure to do so resulted in the issuance of a federal court order authorizing a warrant to raid on the apartment and seize the equipment.
