EU Commission Expands REACH Annex XIV

The Commission of the European Union (EU) has once again expanded the scope of restrictions under its regulations on the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals (REACH).

Published on June 13, 2017 in the Official Journal of the European Union, Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/999 amends Annex XIV of its REACH regulation (1907/2006) to include perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), as well as PFOA-related salts and other substances. Under the published Regulation, PFOAs cannot be manufactured or placed on the market, nor used in the production of, or placed in the market in, another substance in concentrations above newly established levels.

The restriction against PFOAs takes effect as of July 4, 2020.
