Intel has partnered with the International Olympic Games (IOC) to bring cutting-edge technology to this international event. Officials hope that this partnership will increase the levels of fan interaction and make the Olympics a more immersive experience. The partnership will run through 2024.

Intel will devote most of its focus to using its various platforms to enhance the Olympics. These will include 3D and 360-degree content development platforms, drones, artificial intelligence platforms, and 5G platforms to name just a few.

“We are excited to join the Olympic Movement and integrate Intel’s innovative technologies to advance the Olympic Games experience for fans around the world. Through this close collaboration with the Olympic family, we will accelerate the adoption of technology for the future of sports on the world’s largest athletic stage.”

Shielding Effectiveness Test Guide

Just as interference testing requires RF enclosures, isolation systems in turn need their own testing. This document reviews some of the issues and considerations in testing RF enclosures.

The enhancements and programs will be rolled out over the course of several years. Intel will provide technological and content support for Olympic Broadcasting Services and the Olympic Channel. At the Olympics, Intel will demonstrate how effective 5G can be by setting up a showcase. The company hopes this will be the jumping block for international deployment of 5G.

Virtual reality will also play a big part in this joint venture. Intel True VR will provide viewers with the first live virtual reality broadcast of the Winter Games. Additionally, 360 replay technology will give fans an immersive experience, allowing them to relive memorable Olympic moments in exact detail.

In the future, Intel hopes to provide viewers with technology that will let them feel as if they’re at the Olympics without ever getting off the couch. They’ll be able to watch the games from a variety of viewpoints, and have the ability to manage their own viewing experience. Although Intel is still working on this technology, they’re confident that it will change the way people experience the Olympics.

“Our strategic partnership with Intel is a clear demonstration of the enduring appeal of the Olympic Games and the trust the world’s leading companies have in the Olympic Movement. The Olympic Movement is looking forward to working with Intel to achieve its vision of building a better world through sport.”

Tsunekazu Takeda, the IOC’s marketing commission chair.
