IEC 60519-12:2016:

heaters_01-1The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has released IEC 60519-12:2016 . This standard includes safety in installations for electroheating and electromagnetic processing – Part 12: Particular requirements for infrared electroheating and is now available on the IEC webstore.

Description: “IEC 60519-12:2016 specifies safety requirements for industrial electroheating equipment and installations in which infrared radiation – usually generated by infrared emitters – is significantly dominating over heat convection or heat conduction as means of energy transfer to the workload. A further limitation of the scope is that the infrared emitters have a maximum spectral emission at longer wavelengths than 780 nm in air or vacuum, and are emitting wideband continuous spectra such as by thermal radiation or high pressure arcs. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2013. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:

a. the structure has been redrafted according to IEC 60519-1:2015;
b. terms/definitions, normative references and bibliography have been updated and completed;
c. all requirements and content from IEC 60519-12:2013 that have been included in IEC 60519-1:2015 have been removed to avoid any duplication

A Dash of Maxwell’s: A Maxwell’s Equations Primer – Part Two

Maxwell’s Equations are eloquently simple yet excruciatingly complex. Their first statement by James Clerk Maxwell in 1864 heralded the beginning of the age of radio and, one could argue, the age of modern electronics.

IEC 60444-8:2016:

150209edne-euroquartz-wide-operating-temperature-oscillatorsThe International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has released IEC 60444-8:2016 . This standard includes the Measurement of quartz crystal unit parameters – Part 8: Test fixture for surface mounted quartz crystal units and is now available on the IEC webstore.

Description: “IEC 60444-8:2016 describes test fixtures suitable for leadless surface mounted quartz crystal units in enclosures as defined in IEC 61837 (all parts). These fixtures allow the measurement of (series) resonance frequency, (series) resonance resistance, and equivalent electrical circuit parameters L1, C1 and C0 using the measurement techniques specified in IEC 60444-5 and for the determination of  load resonance frequency and load resonance resistance according to IEC TR 60444-4 and IEC 60444-11.
Two test fixtures are described in this document:

1)   A fixture using the p-network circuit with electrical values as described in IEC 60444-1 for measurements in transmission mode up to 500 MHz. This fixture includes optional means to add physical load capacitors for the measurement of load resonance parameters up to 30 MHz in accordance with IEC 60444-4. The range of load capacitance is 10 pF or more. Calibration of the measurement system and CL adapter board is explained hereinafter.

2)   A fixture based on the reflection method, suitable for a frequency range up to 1 200 MHz. No provisions for adding a physical load capacitance are anticipated. Load resonance parameters can be measured by using the method of IEC 60444-11.

This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:

a)   modification of Clause 1;
b)   modification of 5.2;
c)   modification of 5.3;
d)   modification of 5.4;
e)   6.3 Calibration of the reflection measurement system

IEC 61400-25-6:2016:

ee_renclean_wind_image1_turbine_1The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has released IEC 61400-25-6:2016 . This standard includes wind energy generation systems – Part 25-6: Communications for monitoring and control of wind power plants – Logical node classes and data classes for condition monitoring and is now available on the IEC webstore.

Description: “IEC 61400-25-6:2016 specifies the information models related to condition monitoring for wind power plants and the information exchange of data values related to these models. This standard is to be used with other standards of the IEC 61400-25 series. This new edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:

– major restructuring of the data model to accommodate flexibility; removal of UFF58 format;
– access to data using the standard reporting and logging functions;
– recommendations for creating data names to accommodate flexibility.
