Turkey Adopts EU Toy Safety Regulations

Turkey’s Ministry of Custom and Trade has issued new regulations applicable to the safety of toys that closely follows those in force in the European Union (EU).

According to a Bulletin issued by Bureau Veritas, the new Toy Regulation was published in Turkey’s Official Gazette #29847 in early October. The Regulation is reportedly a “direct translation” of EU 2009/48/EC, the EU’s directive on the safety of toys, with the exception of the sections of the directive that address market surveillance and the checking process.

The new Regulation will be applicable to toys produced in or imported into Turkey as of six months following the Regulation’s publication, making it effective in early April 2017.
