TIA Issues Call for Interest on New Project for Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Alerter Acoustic Output Performance Requirements for Analog Telephones

TelephoneThe Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) TR-41.3 Engineering Committee on Analog and Digital Wireline Terminals has issued a call for interest for document TIA-470.220-E initially titled Telecommunications – Telephone Terminal Equipment – Alerter Acoustic Output Performance Requirements for Analog Telephones. This project will remove the alerter requirements associated with B-type ringing.

The project is a result of discussion in May 2015, which revises the fact that the ATIS removed reference to anything other than 20 Hz ringing in the 2000 revision of its ANSI/T1.401 network interface standard (now ATIS-0600401.2006).

Support for 30 Hz ringing is still necessary in Canada. However, Type-A includes both 20 Hz and 30Hz, so eliminating B-type ringing should not cause any issues. Based on this discussion, TR-41.3 voted to open a revision ANSI/TIA-470.210-E the resistance and impedance document to remove the impedance requirements associated with Type-B ringing.

Shielding Effectiveness Test Guide

Just as interference testing requires RF enclosures, isolation systems in turn need their own testing. This document reviews some of the issues and considerations in testing RF enclosures.

The stakeholders may include, but are not limited to: Manufacturers, specifiers, and users of digital telephones and other communications devices providing voice transmission, regardless of protocol or digital format. Specifiers may include retail equipment buyers, enterprise and government procurement officers, etc.

TIA is actively seeking participation in these projects from the user and general interest communities.

For more information about TR-41 and how to participate in standards development with TIA, contact Marianna Kramarikova at standards@tiaonline.org.

A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees. On the public engineering committee pages, users will find recent meeting reports, agendas and notices for upcoming meetings, as well as links to some of the most popular standards from each committee. TIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Visit tiaonline.org.
