Nashville, Tenn. will set the stage this year for a week of education, networking and celebration at the world’s largest conference and career fair for women in engineering and technology. Hosted by The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), WE15 draws some of the brightest and most influential to gather at Nashville Music City Center, Oct. 22-24, 2015 to “Reach Out to Reach Up.”
“For 65 years, SWE has served as a voice for women in engineering and an outlet to turn to for professional and personal development,” said Colleen Layman, president of SWE. “WE15 is a place where we can not only celebrate the hard work of our members and the great advancements of the women in the engineering community, but network with our peers and explore opportunities to better ourselves in our professions and in our lives.”
WE15 attracts more than 8,000 women engineers from across the globe and features more than 250 educational sessions and 275 career fair exhibitors. Collegiates and professionals have the opportunity to interview at the career fair with organizations that are seeking qualified, motivated engineers. Collegiates can also explore graduate school opportunities with leading universities at the exhibition.
WE15 also features the Invent It. Build It. program on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015. Invent It. Build It. is an experience designed to encourage girls to pursue a career in engineering and technology. The day-long program gives girls in grades 6-8 an opportunity to learn about careers in engineering and how engineering plays a role in everyday life. They will partake in hands-on group activities and have exclusive access to influential women in engineering.
“Inspiration early on is key to changing the perception of what an engineer looks like and who can achieve greatness in a STEM career,” added Layman. “The Invent It. Build It program is a crucial part of WE15, allowing professionals and collegiates to make a difference in the lives of young girls who are just starting to pursue their dreams.”
The recipients of SWE’s annual awards will be acknowledged at a formal awards banquet on Oct. 23, 2015.
