New On-Site Service Ahead of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015

reviewing notesTÜV Rheinland, a global leader in compliance testing and certification, announced its Systems Group is launching two on-site services. These new educational and certification services are designed to assist companies in the transition to both ISO 9001:2015, the International Quality Management standard and ISO 14001:2015, the International Environmental Management standard.

Both standard revisions are expected to be published in fall of 2015. All participating companies will have three years from the publication of the standards to be conformant (e.g., by September or October of 2018).

Three Vibration/Balancing Solutions for the Aviation Industry

This paper provides a quick overview of aerospace engine testing solutions for engine vibration/balancing as well as signal conditioning technology from MTI instruments.

Both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 incorporate Annex SL (replacing ISO’s Guide 83) that introduces a “High Level Structure” intended to standardize the layout of all ISO standards using common terms and core texts. Moving forward, all ISO standards will be migrating to this common structure upon their revision. This approach is designed to help streamline the creation of new standards, as well as making it easier for an organization to implement and/or integrate multiple standards.

The ISO 9001:2015 revision maintains the existing overall process approach for systems management, but it now includes risk analysis. The introduction of risk analysis replaces preventive action where the intent is to “design quality in” taking into consideration the customers’ needs and expectations rather than “inspecting quality into the product.” This revision also focuses on increased service prominence and meeting stakeholders’ expectations.

The ISO 14001:2015 revision adds a greater emphasis on leadership and incorporating environmental management into an organization’s strategic planning processes. It also expands consideration of the context of the organization and introduces the concept of life cycle thinking and risk management while focusing on continual improvement of the organization’s environmental performance.

Anticipating these significant changes, TÜV Rheinland’s on-site services aim to keep certified companies educated and up-to-date while making the transition process as seamless as possible. These services include:

Executive Overview Service
This educational on-site service will provide organizations with an overview of changes to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 as well as options for making the transition to the revised standard(s). While this service is not consultative, it will provide valuable information on the nature of the revisions and what auditors will be looking for to verify an organization’s conformity to the revised standard(s). This service typically consists of a half day, but can vary depending upon the needs of the organization.

Readiness Reviews
This one-day gap assessment is tailored for an organization and its processes. An auditor will perform a thorough Quality Management System (QMS) and/or Environmental Management System (EMS) review, designed to assess the current state of a company’s system. Results of this review/audit will benchmark the areas of focus needed in order to conform to ISO 9001:2015 and/or ISO 14001:2015. These reviews are typically 1 day in duration, but can vary based on clients’ specific needs.

“Each update effort generates a certain level of anxiety among organizations,” stated Robert Djurovic, Managing Director, TUV Rheinland of North America. “We understand those worries, and are dedicated to providing executives with the tools they need to make a smooth transition.”

General Information
The ISO 9000 family of standards provides guidelines for establishing and maintaining an effective Quality Management System. The ISO 9001:2015 standard can apply to any type of organization, including manufacturing, service, software or even non-profit organizations.
