IKEA’s PATRULL children’s nightlights are being recalled because the plastic covering can detach and expose electrical components, posing an electrical shock hazard. The recall was prompted by a report from Austria where a young child tried to remove the light from the electrical outlet. The colored plastic cover detached and the child received an electric shock and minor wounds on the hand.
The recall includes approximately 359,000 nightlights that were sold in the United States and 83,000 that were sold in Canada. They were sold at IKEA’s stores and website from August 2013 through July 2015 for about $4. The recalled lights come in white, orange and pink. They automatically turn on in the dark and off in the light. Each PATRULL Nightlight has an IKEA logo on the back top near the sensor. The light has a dome-shaped plastic cover that gives the light its color and is attached to a white rectangular plastic base.
Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled nightlights and contact IKEA for a full refund.
