Cooper Lighting, Portfolio and Utilitech fluorescent lighting fixtures are recalled because the socket can overheat, arc and melt, posing a fire hazard.
The recall includes 1.62 million indoor 2-light flourescent light fixtures (as well as 27,000 units in Canada). The fixtures were sold in white, in various styles: utility wrap, shoplight, striplight, shoplight with side reflector, and decorative end wrap. A date code in a DDD YY format between 182 11 (July 1, 2011) and 090 15 (March 31, 2015) is on a label near the ballast . Check the CPSC notice for a complete list of model numbers.
The recalled fixtures were sold at Ace Hardware, Lowe’s, Menards, Mills Fleet Farm, True Value and other retail stores nationwide from July 2011 through April 2015 for between $13 and $67. No injuries have been reported, but there have been seven reports of sockets overheating, melting, or arcing. Consumers are should immediately stop using the light fixtures and contact Cooper Lighting for a free replacement.
