Nest Labs has recalled 440,000 Nest Protect Smoke + CO alarms due a failure to immediately sound an alert if there is a fire. The alarms are either black or white and are 5.25 inches square with rounded corners.
The alarms come with a Nest Wave feature that allows users to temporarily silence some alerts by vigorously waving near the unit. This feature was enabled as part of the factory settings and there is a slider button in the “On” position in the Nest Protect Settings. To correct the error, the company has issued an automotive electronic update when the device is connected wirelessly to the Internet.
