Data released from the Environmental Agency reported a total of 125,183 tonnes of household and non-household WEEE was collected for recycling for the third quarter in 2013. Total collections for the first nine months of 2013 totaled 365,814 tonnes, equivalent to a 32.78% collection rate.
This amount is slightly down from 33.41% during the same period last year. The UK’s WEEE collection is set to increase to 45% in 2016 when mandatory collection targets go into effect. The introduction of mandatory targets will also be set for compliance schemes to prevent evidence trading and an additional offerings for councils to self-treat several WEEE streams.
