$200,000 Fine Proposed Against Turner Broadcast System by FCC

The Federal Communications Commission has proposed a fine against Turner Broadcasting System for the second time in less than three months. The $200,000 proposed fine is for transmitting advertisements that imitate the national public warning system used by the President of the United States to address the public during a national emergency. The warning system is also used to deliver important emergency information from federal, state and local authorities.

After receiving multiple complaints from consumers about a commercial promoting the release of an “A$AP Rocky” album on Turner’s Adult Swim cable network, Turner provided a recording of the advertisement of the commercial to the FCC. Upon review, the audio material used in the commercial represents a simulation of the EAS tones and the FCC issued a $200,000 Notice of Apparent Liability to Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.
