$1 million in Scholarships for Women Engineers

graduationOver the last ten years, GE’s Women’s Network has donated $1 million to support female engineering students through the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). In 2016, Women’s Network will contribute 43 scholarships that are each worth $5,000.

At over 160 Chapters in 52 countries around the world, Women’s Network helps cultivate women’s leadership skills, business practices, personal contacts, and career opportunities. The organization’s scholarship initiative supports the educational needs of women majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. The students who receive these scholarships also become part of a mentor program with more than 100,000 women role models who can share their experiences and share knowledge with aspiring engineers.

Young women rely on SWE scholarships for support as they prepare for a career in engineering and other related technical fields. The success of SWE scholarships is largely dependent on loyal corporate partners such as GE and its Women’s Network, which is helping to make a big impact on our future generation of engineers.

Karen Horting, executive director and CEO of SWE.

Women studying the following engineering subjects are eligible to apply: Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering/Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. GE’s Women’s Network scholarships and other SWE funding opportunities can be accessed online at http://societyofwomenengineers.swe.org/scholarships.
