SAE International has announced that William Harkness of The Boeing Company is the recipient of the 2016 Steven M. Atkins Ability and Achievement in Science, Engineering, and Technology Award.
Harkness currently works as an engineer in support of Boeing’s enterprise technology strategy. William Harkness of The Boeing Company is the recipient of the 2016 Steven M. Atkins Ability and Achievement in Science, Engineering, and Technology Award. He is Boeing’s first Industrial Systems Engineering Research Center Fellow and holds several patents.
Harkness co-founded the Boeing Employee Ability Awareness Association (BEAAA), Boeing United States Business Leadership Network (USBLN) chapter, and the Boeing Deaf Employees and Friends (BDEAF). In addition, he has received Boeing’s Diversity Change Agent Award three times for his work. He says that his passion is to bring in and introduce the latest and greatest ideas that combine humanism and technology.
Established in 2011, the Steven Atkins Award recognizes the significant technical achievements brought about by innovation, leadership and inspiration of employees with disabilities working in the aerospace engineering industry. The award was established to recognize aerospace employees with disabilities who, through their technical achievements, innovation, leadership and inspiration, have contributed to the aerospace industry. The award honors Steven M. Atkins, Vice President, Product Integrity and Functional Excellence, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
